Thomas Jefferson’s Notes on the Murder by Owen Brown: August 6th, 8th, and 9th
Thomas Jefferson's Notes on the Murder by Owen Brown is a Bread and Wine Theatre Company production, directed by Eric Satterfield, produced by Owen Brown, and staged managed by Tara Laurel with graphic design by Mary Keane. It is taken close to verbatim from eyewitness accounts found in Thomas Jefferson's An Appendix to the Notes on the State of Virginia Relative to the Murder of Logan's Family first published in 1800 and John Adlum's Memoirs of the Year 1794. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography.
Eyewitnesses grapple with the Yellow Creek Massacre of April 1774 and the resultant violences which ultimately led to Logan's Lament. Their disparate accounts, seen through Jefferson’s eyes, invite audiences into a haunting narrative from America’s history in which forgiveness is the only way out.
